RLI Pneumatic Rod Locks (ISO 15552 Metric)

Compact, High-Precision Locks for Pneumatic Cylinders

The AMLOK RLI Series rod locks deliver reliable, mechanical position holding for ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinders, eliminating common pneumatic issues such as drift, bounce, or unintended motion. These spring-engaged, air-released clamps automatically secure the cylinder rod when air pressure is lost, ensuring fail-safe operation and precise positioning.

Key Benefits

  • Instant, Precision Locking | Minimal backlash with repeatability within microns; response time ~100 milliseconds.
  • Fail-Safe Design | Spring-engaged, pneumatic-released, clamps automatically on pressure loss.
  • Robust Holding Force | Compact design delivers holding forces from 200 to 2450 lbf.
  • ISO Standard Integration | Bolt-on installation for ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinders.
  • Durable Construction | Solid, one-piece housing supports installation in any orientation, ensuring reliability and longevity.

Technical Overview

The RLI Series uses an internal mechanical spring mechanism to securely clamp the cylinder rod when pneumatic pressure is lost or removed. An integrated pneumatic piston releases the clamp when air pressure is restored, providing quick engagement and precise, fail-safe positioning. This ensures reliable load holding and enhanced safety in ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinder applications.

Available Options

The RLI Series can be customized or optioned for various application needs:

  • Corrosion Protection | Choose stainless steel or nickel-plated housing versions for use in corrosive environments or where wash-down cleaning is required.
  • High-Performance Seals | Upgrade to Viton® seals for better chemical resistance and higher temperature capability, ensuring the rod lock maintains performance in demanding conditions.
  • Rod Wipers/Scrapers | Add wiper or scraper elements to keep debris, dust, or fluids off the rod and out of the locking mechanism. This is recommended for dirty or abrasive environments to maintain long-term reliability.
  • Fully Sealed Unit | For food processing, pharmaceutical, or outdoor applications, a fully sealed RLI variant can be provided. Sealed units prevent ingress of contaminants (or egress of lubricant) and are suited for washdown and hygienic environments.

Note: The RLI and RLN series share many of the same options and internal components; the primary difference is their mounting interface and dimensional compatibility with metric vs. inch cylinders.

Common Applications

AMLOK RLI pneumatic rod locks find use in any pneumatic-based system where position holding and safety are paramount. Examples include:

  • Machine Tool & Fixturing Systems
  • Pneumatic Presses & Forming Equipment
  • Automation & Assembly Lines
  • Material Handling Equipment
  • Mobile Industrial Machinery
  • Test Stands & Measuring Machines
  • Printing & Paper Converting
  • Entertainment Stage Machinery
  • Mining and Mineral Processing

The RLI is suited to any pneumatic cylinder application where you need the cylinder to stay put under all conditions. If your process cannot tolerate a dropped load or a drifting axis, adding an AMLOK RLI will provide immediate position locking when it’s most needed.
