AME’s Advanced Apprenticeship Program Shapes the Future of Manufacturing

Advanced Machine & Engineering’s (AME) advanced apprenticeship program is a four-year federally administered program supported through the Rock Valley Tooling & Machining Association (RRVTMA). Participating students are required to complete 8,000 hours of manufacturing training in parallel of schooling at Rock Valley College.
Students learn various skills associated with the trade including:
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Programming
- Materials Sciences
- Feeds and Speeds
- Milling, Drilling, and Turning Processes
They take classes every semester at Rock Valley College, which include:
- Introductory CAD and Print Reading
- Metrology
- CNC/CAM Operations (I and II)
- Introduction to Welding
- Graphics/SolidWorks CAD I
AME apprentices work side-by-side with industry veterans to gain hands-on experience while learning practical machining skills right on our factory floor.
Apprenticeship Program History
The apprenticeship program started over 15 years ago with AME Chairman and Founder, Willy Goellner. Willy noticed the skills gap early on in his career and applied the European apprenticeship model here in the United States to help fuel the company’s employee pipeline.
