AME Engages with Younger Minds During National Engineers’ Week

Rockford, Ill.--03/01/2018 -- Advanced Machine & Engineering (AME) had a successful day sponsoring the Discover Engineering event at the Discovery Center Museum in Rockford, Illinois.

The event was the perfect conclusion to National Engineers’ week, and attracted over 1,200 attendees from the Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin regions. Participants were able to solve problems with hands-on investigations and brain-bending challenges.

Kids were entertained by a variety of engineering activities, including various robotics, air rockets, and live shows. They even had a chance to speak with local engineers and manufacturers and learn what they do right here in the Rockford area.

Those that visited AME’s table learned about AME’s AMLOK and AMROK brands. “Some of the kids liked to roll our bellows samples up and down the table,” said Reimund Storck, AME Consultant. “I talked to some parents about our Spieth locknuts, and discussed the basics of our power draw bars.”

High school students were able to discuss our apprenticeship and internship programs with current apprentice, Spencer Kelsey. “It was really helpful for them to have someone their own age speak to them about the program. I basically told them that if they have a passion for engineering, stick with it. There is so much opportunity right now in manufacturing, and it’s important to start young.”

Kelsey is completing the program through Rock Valley College. Once he graduates, he will receive a degree from Northern Illinois University.
